Book of Dead Paytable Symbols and What They Really Pay

In short: Book of Dead is a five-reel slot whose top symbol, Rich Wilde, pays 5,000 for five on a line. Every other symbol value multiplies the per-line bet, while the tomb scatter multiplies the total bet instead.

Five Rich Wildes pay 5,000 on a line and the tomb scatter pays 200 times the whole bet. Those two numbers run on different bases, and that is where most symbol tables go wrong.

The game states its ceiling in coins rather than as a multiplier: 250,000 coins.
Note: Book of Dead pays on ten lines, left to right, and only the highest win counts on each line. The list below gives every symbol with what it pays for five, four and three of a kind. Read it holding one rule in mind: apart from the scatter, these are per-line figures.

Ordered by what five of a kind pays on a single line, highest first. The tomb scatter sits last because it pays on a different base and in a different way.

Paytable Bases: Per Line or Total Bet?

Symbol wins multiply the bet on one line. Scatter wins multiply the whole bet.

Play'n GO prints the rule in a single sentence under its own table: "All wins multiplied by bet staked per line except for SCATTERS." Mix the two bases and every figure you quote comes out wrong.

Work it through on the demo's default stake: a 0.02 coin, five coins a line, ten lines active. The total bet is 1.00 and each line carries 0.10.

Five Rich Wildes on one line pay 5,000 per-line units, so 500.00. Five tomb scatters anywhere pay 200 times the total bet, so 200.00.

Those two look similar on the table and are built from different arithmetic.

The Scatter Is Also the Wild

One symbol does both jobs. The paytable says so in a single breath: "The Tomb SCATTER will pay anywhere on the reels. The Tomb is also WILD! It can substitute for any other symbol to form a winning combo." There is no separate wild anywhere in this game.

That matters when you read a rival's symbol table. A page that lists a wild and a scatter as two different icons is describing a different slot, and we would not trust its other numbers either.

Card Symbols and What They Pay

The card symbols carry the bottom of the table, and the gap to the pictures is wide. Ace and King pay 150 for five on a line. Queen, Jack and Ten pay 100. Set that against Rich Wilde at 5,000 and the top symbol is worth more than thirty of the cheapest ones.

The low end of the table. Ten pays 100 for five of a kind, which matters more than it looks: the free-spin symbol is drawn from this list too. Source: our own screenshot.

The Ten is worth a second look, though, and not because of its value. The free-spin round picks its expanding symbol at random from the whole set, card symbols included, so the cheapest icon on this list can end up carrying an entire feature.

Where the Ceiling Comes From

The game names one ceiling, and it names it in coins. The last line of the paytable screen reads "WIN UP TO 250000 COINS!" and the figure 5,000x appears nowhere in the client.

The one place the game names a ceiling, and it names it in coins: 250,000. The familiar 5,000x is what that works out to at a full ten-line bet. Source: our own screenshot.

You get to 5,000x by dividing. The largest bet the game accepts is 50 coins, which is ten lines at five coins each, and 250,000 divided by 50 is 5,000 times the total bet. Change the bet configuration and the ratio changes with it. Play'n GO's own German build strips the coin layer out and prints the same ceiling as 25,000 times total bet, which is the clearest proof available that the multiplier belongs to the stake and not to the game.

Gaps This Paytable Leaves Out

Three things sit outside this page on purpose. How the free-spin round is triggered and counted, how the expanding symbol is chosen, and how the gamble round multiplies a win are all their own topics with their own numbers.

The whole rules panel runs to 5,361 characters and never prints a return-to-player figure. The word RTP appears once, in the sentence about the gamble. Source: our own screenshot.

Here is the opinion a rival could argue with: we think the per-line figures on this table are close to useless on their own. The number that decides a session is which symbol the feature draws, and that is a different page entirely.
